About buspin-buspirone

General Info: Uses and Effects

Buspin is a brand name of Buspirone, one of the most effective anxiolytic drugs that is mainly used for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). When combined with other antidepressants, it can treat a broad range of serious depressive disorders. As an anxiety treatment drug, Buspirone can help one to feel more relaxed and in touch with the inner self, worry less, think straight, and concentrate on tasks at hand. It also helps one feel less nervous, less angry, control heartbeat, fix sweating problems and even troubled sleep. Buspin works by altering the functions of some neurotransmitters in the brain.

It differs from most anxiolytics, such as Carbamates, Barbiturates, and Benzodiazepines that are GABA receptor agonists usually characterized by withdrawal symptoms and high risks of physical dependence. Furthermore, unlike other anxiolytics, Buspin Generic (Buspirone) is considered an abuse-free medicine, and doesn't pose any serious health risks to users in case of an over dose.

Buspin is used for the treatment of various anxiety-related disorders, such as:

Anxiety: It is an FDA-approved tablet for the treatment and relief of short- and long-term anxiety disorders and related symptoms. Buspin Generic (Buspirone) has delayed anxiolytic effect and can take between 2 and 4 weeks to feel its effect on the body. Limited evidence shows that the drug can also complement selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors to treat social phobia.

Depression: This an off-label use of Buspin Generic (Buspirone) because studies have shown that it can be effective in the treatment of clinical depression as an augmentation agent with complement selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It can further help correct sexual and erectile dysfunction that may result from SSRIs. Other than being an augmentation agent, this medicament can solely and effectively be used for the treatment of depression.

Other uses: Studies show that Buspin Generic (Buspirone) can be effective in the treatment of cerebellar ataxia, hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in women, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Even though there is need for more research, there is enough evidence that shows that it can also help manage agitation, irritability, and aggression, especially in elderly dementia patients.

Contraindication: Important to Know

Buspin has a number of contraindications, such as compromised renal and liver functions, metabolic acidosis (diabetes), and hypersensitivity to Buspirone. Use of this drug with MAO inhibitors is not allowed.

It is important to note that Buspin may contain some inactive ingredients that may lead to allergic reactions or other complications. Patients of some medical conditions, such as liver and kidney problems shouldn't use this drug and are urged to notify the doctor for guidance.

Generally, you must disclose all crucial information about your medical history, especially about conditions, such as Parkinson's disease and bipolar disorder. During the time of use, avoid driving, operating complex machinery, or engaging in activities that demand for high levels of alertness. Also, stay away from alcohol. Inform your doctor if you are taking any other anxiolytics. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should also seek the doctor's guidance before taking because it might affect the infant.

Call emergency medical numbers if you come across an individual with troubled breathing, or someone who has passed out due to a possible overdose. Missed doses should be taken as soon as one recalls but can be skipped if it is close to the next dosage. Trying to compensate missed dosage is prohibited. This medicine should strictly be used by the prescribed person and not shared with anyone else.

Instructions on Taking

Buspirone is taken by mouth as directed by the doctor (in most cases twice or thrice daily). Even though it can be taken with or without food, it is recommended that you choose and stick to one option that you are more comfortable with to maintain good absorption levels. Proper dosage however depends on your current health condition and body's response to the medication. For the best results, you are encouraged to use it on a regular basis, always trying as much as possible to take it at the same time daily.

Note that at first, you may experience increased symptoms of anxiety, such as restlessness. This shouldn't worry you unless they are severe because they later improve as the body responds to the medication. This may take up to a month for real relief to set in but you should inform your doctor if the severe anxiety symptoms persist.

Side Effects

Buspirone is associated with a number of side effects, such as headaches, nervousness, dizziness, and nausea. It is however relatively tolerant and doesn't cause psychomotor and cognitive impairment, sedation, relaxation of muscles, and physical dependence. In some very rare cases, some patients may experience tremors, stiffness of the muscles and jerkiness in movement.

There are chances that some of these conditions, though rare, may become permanent. It is therefore very important to inform your doctor immediately you observe any uncontrolled movements of some body parts, especially the legs, mouth, arms and tongue. It is also not a drug of abuse (an overdose doesn't cause life-threatening risks) and doesn't produce euphoria.

Despite its relatively gentle nature in events of single-pill overdose, some clinical trials have indicated that an overdose can lead to gastric distress, dizziness, vomiting, miosis, and nausea. Trials with extreme overdoses of up to 2,400mg/day have shown cases of tremor, rigidity of the muscles, and akathisia. There are also very rare cases of serious allergic reaction to Buspin Generic, such as troubled breathing, itching or swelling of the throat, tongue or face, and rashes.

Interaction with Other Drugs

The effectiveness of the Buspin medication or resultant side effects may be affected by its interaction with other tablets. You should therefore provide a comprehensive list of all your medicines to the doctor or pharmacist before using Buspirone. Stick to the prescription and don't change, stop, or commence your medication without clear approval from your doctor.

Use of MAO inhibitors is especially prohibited as they may lead to very serious interactions. It is advisable that you stop taking inhibitors, such as Safinamide, Isocarboxazid, Moclobemide, Linezolid, Phenelzine, Methylene blue, Selegiline, Procarbazine, Rasagiline, and Tranylcypromine at least two weeks prior to and after using Buspin Generic.

You should further inform your doctor about other pills and substances that may lead to drowsiness like pain relievers, alcohol, sleep or anxiolytics, muscle relaxants, and marijuana. Always scrutinize every drug's labels whether they have ingredients that may result in drowsiness. In case you are planning on undergoing some medical or laboratory tests like Parkinson disease brain scan, inform your doctor as Buspin might affect the test results.
