General Info: Uses and Effects
Luvox Generic (Fluvoxamine) is a drug that functions as a receptor agonist or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSR). It is a treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It is also a therapy for serious depressive and anxiety disorders such as post-traumatic stress and panic maladies.
Luvox Generic belongs to the large category of tablets known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). This tablet is used to affect neurotransmitters in a person's brain. Neurotransmitters are chemicals used by brain nerves to communicate and coordinate with one another. Normally, neurotransmitters are produced and released by the nerves. They then travel freely between the spaces within the nerves before attaching themselves to other nerves' receptors. When there is an imbalance in neurotransmitters, the result is depression and some other psychiatric disorders.
Fluvoxamine inhibits or prevents the uptake of serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter within the brain, from the small spaces that exist between the nerve cells. The higher the number of serotonin attaching to the other nerves, the stronger the simulation of the nerves. The drug helps in decreasing unwanted and persistent thoughts, and urges to undertake tasks such as checking, counting and hand washing, or any obsessions that might interfere with a person's daily living.
